What are the prerequisites for the course? What should I have experience with to do well in the course?

Mechatronics for Equipment Maintenance Level II, Virtual Lab, and Principles of Control Systems must certify you meet the following requirements

You must have the following experiences to do well in the Mechatronics for Equipment Maintenance Level II and Virtual Lab course:

  • Basic equipment use, such as experience in a commercial or industrial environment
  • Basic electrical background, such as electrical principles and theory
  • Basic mechanical background such as the use of hand tools
  • Desire to develop mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong safety orientation
  • Critical thinking skills

You must have the following experiences to do well in the Principles of Control Systems course:

  • 2+ years of experience with Motor Controls (motor starts, variable frequency drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components) as well as troubleshooting/programming, including HMI components, Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) programs, and industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting.
  • 1+ year of experience with repair of control network components.
  • Some experience with robotic systems maintenance, including robots, tools, hydraulic systems, and teach pendants.
  • SACA certification in a relevant area can be used as a substitute for some experience.
